Hello to the people of Walter Taylor South Action Group.
My name is Edward Carroll and I am running as a candidate in the upcoming state election for the seat of Miller. I will be an independent candidate for the ballot, but I do belong to the Australian Progressives, where I sit on the National Executive and lead the state branch as Interim President. I have lived in the Western Corridor in Oxley, Darra and Richlands since I was 15, and lived in Sydney before then. I finished my schooling at Corinda State High, and have always been closely connected to the area.
Having over ten years of experience in hospitality, I am easily able to work with people from all walks of life, and this has often held me in good stead in the cyclone-in-a-teacup that politics often is. I have dealt with all levels of government before, as I negotiated an inspection and planning of the old Witton Barracks at Indooroopilly Station for a possible military museum relocation back in 2015. At the time, I spoke to council about their plans for the area and how a possible road duplication would affect the Barracks.
Road bridges are not the only way to solve congestion over the Walter Taylor, and I have a plan for heavy rail in South East Queensland. I would see a heavy rail connection between the Ipswich and Springfield lines across to the Gold Coast line. Having this West/South passage will reduce the amount of people that need to travel all the way in to the city in order to change lines. This will hopefully result in more availability of services and a reduction of traffic through our area. Safety initiatives for the rail line I would like to see would include a height sensor with light up sign for the low set underpasses we all hate seeing struck.
I am deeply passionate about community led initiatives, which is why I support policies such as the Local Power Plan by federal MP Dr Helen Haines for community owned power generation. I would also like to see an expansion of community gardens much like the wonderful Graceville Community Garden, with a funding program for apiaries to help local bee populations. My values of ethics, evidence, and engagement I hope will put me to the forefront of your options come October 31st.
